Slippery Elm Bark

Elm bark promotes digestion and protects the gastrointestinal tract, it is made from the bark of the American red elm and lives up to its English name. The bark of the elm consists of sugar molecules, the so-called polysaccharides (also known from Moro's carrot soup). To actually use elm bark, mix the powder with water and a kind of slime is created. The slimier, the better. Elm bark is known to aid digestion and the gastrointestinal tract, especially when the dog has problems such as diarrhea or vomiting. The mixed mucus or polysaccharides coat the gastric mucosa and protect them against irritation and inflammation. The elm bark can not only be used for gastrointestinal complaints, but thanks to its slimy syrup consistency, it can also be very useful for improving toothache and sore throat or breathing problems and inflammation.
